A sailor’s wife raises both her own son and the one her husband had from another woman. Because of rivalry, she persuades her husband that the strong boy is her own and that the weaker one is the other woman’s. A grown young man, the weaker son dies in a shipwreck and his mother, tormented with guilt, kills herself.
