The story takes place in the milieu of the lowest level of proletarian society. In the first of three episodes, a pedlar gets involved with a gang of smugglers. Since he knows about their activities, he would be in a position to report them. The smugglers, who consider him to be a potential source of danger, decide to eliminate him.
