After doing his military service, Erken goes back to his village. He is reunited with his friends who have not changed, his fiancée got married to another man. He finds it hard to breathe among these people who are dear to him, as he becomes aware of their selfishness, their pettiness and their pitiful existence. Erken then decides to leave the steppe forever.
