Souleymane and Fanta have a daughter, Penda, who becomes pregnant. The father is her new school teacher who refuses to recognize the child. Souleymane considers his status as a countryman has been held up to ridicule and decides to repudiate his daughter as well as his wife. He believes a mother has to answer for her daughter’s behaviour. Both women leave the village and take shelter with an uncle who lives in the city. Unfortunately they aren’t welcome there and have to face the hardships of urban life without any support.
Will they overcome these hardships or will they join the big family of the city’s easy women?
