Harriet, a young English girl, lives with her family in a big house near Calcutta. One autumn day, «Captain John» returns from the war and settles in a nearby house. Invited to a party, he meets Harriet, as well as Melanie, a beautiful Indian half-breed, and Valerie. The three girls all fall in love with the beautiful stranger.
