Philippe Akiki, a widower, own a small shop in the village. An honest man, he has two sons: a dumb one (Maasri) and a cunning one (Gebara). The dumb son is as honest as his father, always willing to help. He impersonates goodness. He is in love with a village girl and can only express his love with gestures, instead of the short-lived words his brother keeps using. While the dumb son helps his father to earn money in the shop, his brother gambles it away, spends it on women and tries to grab the dumb boy’s land to pay his debts back.
