Noel accepts his father’s remarriage with Agnes and the arrival of a step-sister, Melody. The two grow up with a fierce hatred for each other and, on their parents’ death, Noel becomes the legal guardian of Melody, much to her dismay… Like Bernal, Brocka or the other De Leon, Gerardo, Mike De Leon did not shy away from making mainstream films. A pure melodrama with a glamorous cast, An Indivisible Heaven was a huge box-office success. However, with a distinct nod to Douglas Sirk, Mike De Leon skillfully makes a clear distinction between the emotional devices of his story and his characters’ deeper feelings. JB
