Two main stories make up the plot of the film.
The first is about Watan, a middle-aged Aboriginal from the island of Formosa. The
postman delivers a letter at dawn. The letter which informs him that his lost wallet
has been found is dropped onto his face as if it were bird droppings. Whenever he drinks wine, he thinks about the letter. Watan therefore decides to go to Taipei to pick up his wallet and, at the same time, to resume a long-lost love he had experienced in a millet field.
The second story is about Xiao Mao, a young man who works in a Japanese restaurant and leads a debauched life. At night, he goes to places where he spends his time with girls on the phone. There he receives a strange call from a girl who asks him to listen to her sad story. It is the story of a former love, and it takes place in a millet field…
