In 1945, shortly before the Japanese surrender, the inhabitants of a mountain village take in the pilot of a plane that has just crashed nearby. Te pilot, an African American, is held captive in a sordid hut. He becomes the witness to the unhealthy tensions that reign in the village and will be held responsible, wrongly, for the death of a little girl.
