1947 : a cholera epidemic ravages Egypt. Saddika, a washerwoman in her forties, lives in a basement with her paralysed husband and her grand-son. Strong-willed but reserved, she compensates for the lack in her emotional life by fantasies based on the popular melodramatic stereotypes of the day. She loves movies and washes the clothes of her favourite actress, the voluptuous Zeinat. One evening, her grandson brings Okka home with him. Okka is a 24-year-ols monkey trainer who is immediately struck by Saddika’s feminity, behind her taciturn mask.
