In south-western Afghanistan, Djamal, a young simple orphan, is taken in by a neighbour who brings him up like her own son. Djamal wanders through the lanes of the village where his absent-mindedness makes him the perfect culprit for petty crimes he was only a witness of. Djamal’s adoptive mother works as a servant at a rich villager’s. His daughter, Zarlachta who has just come back from the city, takes the young boy under her wing. Hashish smokers accidentally set fire to the crop of an important man in the village. As usual, Djamal gets blamed…
