Two detectives set out to find clues that will help them solve the murder of an old man who was found lifeless in a railway yard.
Almost unknown in France, Nomura made about 90 feature films. The script for Castle of Sand spent many years boxed away at Shochiku before the studio commissioned the film version from Nomura, who had already brought several of Seicho Matsumoto’s novels to the screen. Today, the film is still very highly regarded by Japanese film critics. JB
