Chihiro and her parents go astray on a forest path and get lost in the world of the gods. The tiny family find themselves in front of a huge red building. On the other side of the tunnel is a ghost town. The parents discover a spread of succulent dishes in a deserted restaurant and soon tuck in. They are turned into pigs. Panic-stricken, Chihiro runs away and gradually dematerialises. The enigmatic Haku explains to her the workings of the universe she has just entered.
Chihiro’s Journey, which quickly became a cult film and boxoffice success with favourable reviews, condenses all the talent and originality of Miyazaki’s filmmaking.
