Leading a miserable life, Dionisio Pinzón saves a dying rooster from death after a bloody flight. The animal miraculously survives and the two set off to seek their fortune in cock fights organized in country fairs. On his way, Dionisio meets “la Caponera” (“the ball-breaker”), an independent-minded female singer who becomes his “lucky star”. As he gradually manages to tame the woman’s free spirit, Dionisio gets richer and richer playing cards and starts taking his revenge on poverty. Yet destiny has many obstacles in store for him…
