That evening, Absa is to meet a suitor. For the occasion, her mother gets out some precious family jewels. The young girl spends the afternoon getting ready, in the company of her three sisters and her mother, who tries to maintain the harmony between daughters with very different hopes and conceptions of life. But the disappearance of a pair of earrings triggers a crisis. A drama builds up in this group of women living under the same roof, around the jewels and a wig, both signs of elegance.
