Good Manners

One day, a poor woman living on the outskirts of São Paulo travels to a smart neighbourhood to try her luck in an interview for the job of nurse (and perhaps more). The résumé of Clara, whose name contrasts with the colour of her skin but aptly reflects her character, does not seem the most fitting for the job. But an inexplicable chemistry with the pregnant Ana opens to her the door of the luxurious apartment. The fatal encounter between these two lonely women from very different backgrounds (played by the remarkable duo Isabel Zuaa and Marjorie Estiano) leads into a fairy (or horror) story inspired as much by the imaginary of Brazilian folklore as by Disney or Polanski’s Rosemary’s Baby. Beautifully accompanied by the photography of Rui Poças, Marco Dutra and Juliana Rojas’ second feature is above all a crazed and unconditional story of maternal love that defies all norms and reason.
