Beck and Max are losers, marginals who share a flat where promiscuity enlarges this scale of existence without scope. Earning a living from small businesses in the streets of Almaty, they both try to deal with their daily life while waiting for their dreams to come true. Max, an unruly flirt, wants to move to Germany, Beck is patiently searching for true love. Somewhere between Jarmusch and Kaurismaki, Nariman Turebayev finds a way for a film in which subdued humour and precise directing give this Kazakh blues its poetic depth. JB
