Belkacem, a young romantic, lives in Boul’hilet, a village in the Saharan highlands where drought and unemployment are the order of the day. Bouocha, an old dervish from who knows where, entrusts Belkacem with the secret of the olive tree, the only planting tree and a real mystery in this stony desert.
After waterworks, modern life bursts into the village. Belkacem, ill-prepared for the situation, feels frustrated and confuses dreams with reality. Believing he has killed his rival, who loves his beloved, he flees the village, having put on the clothes of the dervish whose walk he now resembles.
