The anthological character of the first long take (14 min) does not crowd out the subtlety and sensitivity of the cinematic narrative through which Sômai recounts the different ages in the life of a woman. The motif of the snow, immaterial, ephemeral and yet an eternal image, is at the same time a metaphorical echo and concrete manifestation of the time we see passing by.
As in the rest of the film, the filmmaker condenses and dissolves the representations specific to traditional and modern Oriental culture (literature, painting, theatre, dance…) into a single movement, revealing cinema’s capacity for receptivity and for dialogue between the arts.
