Ah Yingis a “lady from the North”, from Wuhan in Mainland China. She lands in Hong Kong with only a tourist visa. Here, she does not exist. In fact, in her eyes, the city does not exist either. During this initiatory journey, she meets three Chinese immigrants: Quin works as a lift operator for a big Chinese restaurant. She lost her son and a leg in a road accident. Al Jian is Quin’s regular lover, an old-time gangster who works in a porn video rental shop. The third, Ah Chun, is a lift repairer.
