As an intimate chronicle unfolding in the first person, the film quite logically opts for static and pan shots to accompany the first encounter, the marriage and the life of a young Czech woman and her husband Nazir in Afghanistan. Between everyday scenes and intense inner upheavals, Michaela Pavlatova has all the subtlety required to match the simple animated drawings with the complexity of the situations. Like an ideal couple, form and subject meet in harmony, idealising nothing, and the film finds an excellent opportunity to replace any projected fantasies or clichés with a finely nuanced portrait.
