Arezki, a Kabyle farmer, takes a dying young man to his house and nurses him back to life. During his convalescence, Larbi, the young man begins a relationship with the farmer’s daughter. When Arezki discovers that his daughter is pregnant, he feels humiliated and swears revenge. He sets off immediately to find the young stranger. In the meantime, Larbi returns to the farm and accepts responsibility for the family while waiting for
the father to return. Arezki searches far and wide, encountering numerous obstacles which try his physical and mental stamina. But his search is unsuccessful. Unable to find Larbi and avenge his honour, Arezki returns to his village. Disgraced, he hides out at the edge of the wood near his farm. One day, whilst pretending to be dead, he kills a
man collecting wood whom he thought was Larbi. Back at his place, Arezki collapses in the yard where his wife and daughter recognise him. The ecstatic women go outside the house, calling for Larbi to tell him the good news…
