A young woman is desired by the commander of troops stationed in the village. But she is in love with a poor, courageous man, who wounds the commander in an attempt to protect her from being raped. The young woman’s fiancé is sentenced to 25 years in prison. When the commander recovers, he offers the prisoner’s liberty in exchange for the woman’s body. Out of desperation, she accepts the sacrifice. But her fiancé is freed by a soldier just in time to stop the commander from taking her off in a boat. The two men confront each other on the boat and the commander perishes by drowning.
