Sturdy as a rock both in stature and character, Mamza gives no charity, expects none, has learned to look after her own. Mamza runs an illegal drinking place to earn a living and to educate her teenage daughter Vonnie. But cramped quarters and alcohol do not mix with finer aspirations and the need for dignity. Frustration and conflicts are always smouldering just below the surface, for Mamza and her family who are second-class citizens in their birth country.
