Mystic Mass

Each year, in Nabatieh in the Lebanon, the Ashura festival – commemorating the death of Imam Hussein in the 7th Century – plays out. Taking a methodical and ethnographic look at one of the world’s largest human gatherings, the film accompanies the gruelling procession that reconstitutes the martyrdom of the Shiites’ third imam for a full ten days.
