Peter Jones, a diplomat, can tell that his wife Margaret is cheating on him. He hires a private detective who informs him that her supposed lover is in fact a chimpanzee called Max. Peter then offers to allow his wife to move the animal to their home. One scandal follows another and Max ends up running away. But he is now part of Margaret’s life.
