Medea

by Ben CALDWELL

Medea004copy

A film with a lightning effect, Medea is as deep and ample in its metaphoric power as it is short and effective in its form. In less than seven minutes, the images of the history of America and its oppressed descendants collide with those of a pregnant woman. These flashes become the reminiscences of a being not yet born, like a question asked to the future, in which the stigmata of the past give rise to an emancipating rage. Ben Caldwell’s powerful editing translates the past, present and future dialectic – without pathos, but with a beauty whose secret cinema alone holds. MM
