In violent times that seem to be a carbon copy of our 2010s in Europe, two young girls spark up a workplace friendship in the Mercuriales twin towers overshadowing Bagnolet. Weaving motifs of confused and concrete daydreams, akin to a latent war, into the image, Virgil Vernier gives a disturbing reality a captivating side – a phantasmic drift into the secret swamp of a barely noticed life at the foot of the towers. Shot in 16mm, the film owes much to its reactive photography, blurred and sensitive, which turns the representation of this urban world into a seedy dream, but one that always has a documentary link to reality.
