Mokhtar, a young high school student, manages to publish his first novel through the Tunisian Women’s Union. In his book, he deals with the problems of the Tunisian youth belonging to the new generation after decolonisation and women’s liberation. The novel is a success and Mokhtar gives many interviews. However, he is not happy with the way critics understand his novel. He decides to write a second novel whose main character is a young woman who wants to break away from her past. This book is also a success. He has the opportunity to adapt his first novel for cinema, but he is disappointed as his work has been deeply altered.
