Mossane is Safi Faye’s last film and the only fictional one. Shot in the same setting as her documentaries, it borrows from tragedy, from comedies of manners, mythology, to support an argument as old as desire: a young woman is coveted by men. Mossane is too young and too beautiful. As brazen to society’s eyes as she is deeply wise regarding the more or less guilty temptations that move this small world. This wisdom will save and kill her, because in opposing it to the assaults of men and families, she commits a great tragic gesture: to bring order to desire, to disobey when all desires, here, are disorderly.
