In the distant regions of southern Brazil, young girls do not dream of Rio de Janeiro’s gleaming beaches or Sao Paulo’s electric atmosphere. Their El Dorado is Uruguay, where life is better and where young men are true romantics. Sixteen-year-old Nalu is growing up on the wrong side of the border. She is biding her time in Brazil between school, where she meets her friend Elisa, and her family home where her blind father awaits her return. At sixteen, Nalu would love to turn her back on her family and live her own life. Cristiane Oliveira’s gives a delicate portrait of a young girl indolently torn between a family responsibility made heavier by her father’s laconic attitude and the inner voices of a young adult’s desires and dreams of freedom. The film took part in the 2010 Produire au Sud workshop in Nantes. GM
