Vikas Pande is the executive editor of the New Delhi Times, an English-language daily. The newspaper is owned by Jagannath Poddar, an idealist press baron and industrial tycoon. His son Jugal Kishore does not share his father’s concern with truth and believes that a newspaper is a powerful instrument that should be used to manipulate those in power.
Vikas is supposed to cover the ongoing power struggle in a neighbouring state, but information comes of a ghastly illicit liquor tragedy where thirty-five migrant workers have died. Kedar, a young reporter, is asked to follow up the story. Kedar talks to local liquor manufacturers and comes up with one name that seems to instil fear in everyone: Moghul. He is also warned that his life is in danger. Before Vikas can join him, Kedar dies in a road accident. Vikas is convinced that Kedar was murdered and that his assassination has strong political motivations…
