Niiwam is a story based on the ambiguous relationship between city-dwellers, on the weight of insolvable contradictions born from divergent interests.
Coming from Central Senegal, Thierno goes to the city to try and save his daughter in one of the city’s major hospitals. But his daughter dies. Thierno shares the sad fate of thousands of citizens who leave the countryside for the cities hoping to improve their way of life. Carrying the body of his daughter Thierno feels ever so lonely in the bus that takes him to the graveyard, crossing the city from east to west. The bus is the place where people belonging to various categories share their concerns. Thierno learns a lot about the way of the city from the people who are born, live and die there.
