(Nosotros los Pobres)

Pepe “El Toro” is a humble carpenter in a city neighborhood. A widower, he looks after his daughter Chachita. He’s engaged to Celia whose mother is dumb and paralytic and whose aunt is consumptive. Montes, a rich man, accuses Pepe of murdering a woman usurer and manages to have him sent to prison, after confiscating his carpentry. Pepe escapes from prison and tells Chachita that the consumptive aunt is really her mother. The aunt and Pepe’s mother die at the hospital where Pepe is caught again. But he identifies the real murderer in the prison, forces him to confess and is set free. Finally, he marries Celia and they have a child together.
