A young countryman from a modest background is made into a pop idol. This transformation means that his biography has to be rewritten and rendered more artistic. His future has to be traced out, his alleged qualities highlighted and even a marriage invented for him. Here, Kuhn had sensed all the consequences of the show-business culture as the organising principle of a symbolic order. In this caustic comedy, he portrays the complex web on which is woven a form of subjectivity conceived as both an appearance and a commodity. The camera movements, the framing of indoor scenes and the choices for his filming of Buenos Aires city reveal a totally modern cinematography, which culminates brilliantly in the final scene, doubtless one of the best endings in the history of Argentine cinema.
