Living on top of each other in a semi-basement in one of Seoul’s poor districts, the members of the Kim family do odd jobs to survive. Ki-woo, the son, finds a job through one of his friends and is hired as an English teacher for the daughter of a wealthy family living on the city heights. Jumping on the opportunity, his sister, mother and father all manage to get hired there – as an art teacher, governess and chauffeur – by sparing no means to oust their predecessors. The situation then spirals out of control.
