Alongside Martín Rejtman’s Rapado, Pizza, birra, faso (literally, “Pizza, beer and joint”) is unquestionably one of the films that most strongly influenced the “Nuevo Cine Argentino” of the 1990s, both at the time and over the years. Cordobés, Pablo, Megabom and Frula, four youngsters with no job or project for the future, spend their days between increasingly serious thefts and idle moments in the Argentine capital. Cordobés’ girlfriend encourages him to take another path just at the moment the group is hatching something big. This first feature is remarkable for the liveliness of its dialogues and editing. It modernises the image of a marginalised youth by having the youngsters speak their own language, and manages to portray them in a more endearing than violent light. CA
