At the beginning of the 20th century, a tango singer marries a painter who is a descendant of a Buenos Aires aristocratic family. They have their first son while living in extreme poverty. When one of the young man’s aunts dies, things get better. However, the woman’s brother—an unscrupulous character—causes the accidental death of her husband. She gets accused and is sentenced to twenty years in prison. Upon her release from prison, she tries to find her son who knows nothing of her. But once again, her brother stands in her way and unwittingly causes her death.
