A fiction documented by substantial archive footage, a political film, a personal diary, road movie. The aesthetic ambition of Amma Aryian by John Abraham, who passed away before his time, is gauged by the crazy idea of merging together all these dimensions. The dramatic thrust of the film hangs on a series of connecting events: on the road taking him to Delhi, Purushan is shaken to the core on seeing the corpse of Hari, a young Naxalite tabla player. Along with many others, he sets out on a long walk to carry the news to the deceased’s mother. Although the Report to Mother of the title indicates the purpose of the journey, the film unquestionably address- es the country’s state of affairs. JB
