The legendary Internet rule 34 states that “if it exists, an equivalent porn version exists”. Simone is a law student by day, engaged in the fight against gender-based violence, and cam-girl by night, exploring her masochistic fantasies. The narration gradually and gently undoes this face-to-face between daytime and night time, between these radically heterogeneous worlds that, nonetheless, bring into play the analogy with laws, rights and the forbidden. Rule 34 is set in this half-light and has the intelligence to interweave these questions with the heroine’s skin, mirroring them in a diffuse cloud where the themes of state violence, oppression, identity and the assertion of one’s desires jostle each other. No demonstration or dogmatism in this film of our times, but rather an invitation, via Simone’s personal journey, to rethink our intimate and political imaginaries. AR
