(Salon Mexico)

by Emilio FERNÁNDEZ

Mercedes is a hostess at the “Mexico Saloon”, a place of vice where the underground bandits meet. She supports her young sister Beatriz, a boarder in an exclusive institution who doesn’t know anything of her sister’s life. One night, Mercedes wins a dance compétition award but Paco, her pimp, refuses to give her her share. However, she can keep her trophy. Mercedes then tries to get her money while Paco is asleep. But he discovers the woman and hits her without mercy. She is saved by Lupe, an honest policeman, who manages to overcome Paco. Lupe tells Mercedes he wishes to marry her as soon as Beatriz gets married herself. Meanwhile, Beatriz falls in love with Roberto, the son of the institutions headmistress. He is a young lame air pilot, a hero of the 201 Squadron. In the meantime, Paco robs a bank, kills a man and ends up hiding in Mercedes’ room. They are both sent to jail, but Mercedes is later released. She agrees to Beatriz marrying Roberto, then bids the “Mexico Saloon” farewell. Beatriz successfully graduates and Roberto, who knows the whole story, lovingly holds her in his arms.
