Scheherazade, Tell me a Story
(Ehky ya Schahrazad)

by Yousry NASRALLAH

3

Modern-day Cairo. Husband and wife, Hebba and Karim, are both successful journalists. Hebba hosts a political talk show, but her anti-government pugnacity is endangering the promotion her husband is waiting for. He puts pressure on her, and she promises to back off and swap politics for women’s issues – which turn out to be just as political. Splendid portraits of women, a cross-section of Egypt several years before the 2011 events, a melodrama with tremendous subversive potential, Scheherazade, Tell Me a Story, is also a reference to the famous Persian epic, One Thousand and One Nights.
