A peasant family from Nordeste has to leave its home because of a drought. After walking across sertão, the coming of the rain allows them to stay at a fazenda for a while. One Sunday in town, Fabiano, the head of the family is deceived by a policeman, sent to jail and beaten. Later, he finds his enemy on his own but lets him go instead of having his revenge. The family has to hit the road again to support itself.
