Cuba, 1868. After bis father’s death, Gaston cornes back to Hacienda and sets young slave Siboney free. A long time ago, Gaston was thrown out of his father’s house for advocating rights for black slaves. Then be became the manager of Ligia, an opera singer. At that time, Gaston received a letter and learnt that Siboney was the daughter of important aristocrats who gave her to a black couple to protect her from their enemies. With the help of Ligia and Gaston, Siboney maintains her artistic talent and achieves success. She tells Gaston she loves him. But tenor Ricardo, who bas been courting her, convinces her to go away with him. Gaston goes to fight in the Cuban Independence War. Ricardo and Siboney bave a fight. She decides to go back to Gaston, fatally wounded in a battle. On bis death bed, Gaston asks Ricardo to marry Siboney. A dying Gaston smiles when he hears that the independence fighters have won two major battles.
