This film is a dialogue with life, thumri music and its tradition. Siddheshwari has but one passion: learning to sing. Because she dared rebel, she is thrown out of her aunt’s house in Varanasi. She finds shelter at the great sarangi player Sijyaji Maharaj’s home where she can continue to learn music. Soon she is recognized as a major singer. Like Siddheshwari’s life, the film does not follow a straight course and includes a number of ellipses. Scenes show some key events in the young girl’s life, her first steps in the art of singing, her highly successful career which took the thumri tradition to new heights.
