In January 1987, Jaeho, a young lame man arrives on the waterfront ofMokpo, a
southern Korean port. He is looking for a job as a crew member on a boat. A broker, Mr Oh, introduces him to a boat owner but deprives him of all the money he was paid in advance. Moreover, the job he is offered is on a shrimp boat, the Blue Dragon, which is considered as a modem day slave ship. One day, the boat crew spend a night on an island where Jaeho meets a blind prostitute, Soonyoung. But the hard life on the Blue Dragon continues. Jaeho tries to steal a motor boat to escape but he is caught by the captain and mercilessly beaten. Later, he is offered to take over as captain. While supervising the crew, he secretly plans to escape with the entire crew. As D day comes, they get ready but typhoon Thelma is on its way and dark. clouds slowly overcast the sky over the Blue Dragon.
