Ryota Nonomiya, a successful architect, and his wife Midori, a stay-at-home-mother, have a six-year-old son, Keita. Although Ryota can spare little time for his child, the family leads a peaceful existence until one day the parent receive a call from the hospital where Keita was born: Keita had been switched at birth and thus is not their biological son. The parents are faced with a choice: do they “switch the children back”? Like the characters, the film envisages the unthinkable without flinching. An art of nuance that makes it possible to confront any prejudice – be it the idea that your child cannot be replaced or the idea that what takes precedence is the bloodline – to construct a subtle path towards possible answers.
