Soriba Samb is a 35-year-old technician who has never left Senegal before. All he knows about France are memories from his pre-Independence school books: the Gauls, our ancestors, the Pyrenees, Baudelaire… Soriba is going to get trained in a major film laboratory in Paris where he wants to gain experience and expertise that Senegal can’t give him. But Soriba also has two missions: he must take young Idi (his cousin Aida’s son) to his father who hasn’t seen him for years and find Issa N’Doye, his childhood friend, whose whereabouts have been unknown since he left the country seven years ago. In Paris, Soriba makes friends and fails in love. When he finally finds Issa, he is disillusioned. His friend is now a pimp and no longer has faith in Africa.
