In north-western Afghanistan, near the Iranian border, Gul Afrooz, a young woman, and her three children struggle to survive. Her engagement with Firooz are followed with a forced wedding with an old veteran. The traditional structures of society seem to make her powerless, yet she keeps fighting. The local commander forces her to do some smuggling: she must take opium to the other side of the Iranian border. There, she will be discovered and sent to jail…
