In Rio de Janeiro, a certain elite can afford the luxury of living in coberturas, the largepenthouses at the top of high apartment blocks, complete with garden and swimming pool. Overlooking the city, the sea and the whole of society, its members see the world only from afar, only from the top, from several tens of metres above ground. The film climbs up to meet nine such households. Men and women, couples, singles or families, here we find a true cross-section of the old and new Brazilian bourgeoisie. Through critical and sympathetic eyes, the filmmaker gives us an insight into these new Brazilian havens, which resemble solitary islands in the urban ocean.
